After graduating from Keio University, Kyoko worked at a bank.
Prior to studying design at the Tokyo Tanaka Chiyo School of Fashion Design, Kyoko worked with wedding dress designer Eri Matsui.
In 1997, when Kyoko’s father passed away suddenly, she decided to take over the family business—Yoshikawa Boushi—which is a Japanese manufacturer of knitted hats.
As the chief executive officer, Kyoko expanded her business with original equipment manufacturing business.
In 2004, she launched her own brand—ami-tsumuli—which debuted at the “Premiere Class Paris” trade show.
Kyoko has received high praise for her architectural and modern designs, and her hats are now sold in numerous boutiques around the world.
After giving birth to her son, Kyoko became interested in working behind the scenes of the fashion industry. She also started conducting her own research on the environmental effects of the fashion industry, and in 2013, she established her ethical collection—the ami-tsumuli white label.
In 2014, Kyoko moved to Montreal, Canada, where she currently resides with her family.
